Enforced Disappearancs

AbdulGhaffar - ThumbThe Enforced Disappeared people of Pakistan belonged to different parts of the country, at times ethnic and cultural groups, of simple backgrounds, but professionally qualified in most cases, demanding from the government justified rights for their communities, at times human rights activists and idealists. Pakistan, in the eyes of the world is a democratic country and the essence of any democracy, is its adherence to the Universal Declaration of Human Rights under the UN Charter. Unfortunately, the leadership has time and again, violated the UN charter, for their own vested interests and has subjected their people to great sufferings, only to please some of its allies in the “War on Terror”. The attempts of implicating innocent people on baseless charges, and detaining them for an indefinite period have had a devastating impact on thousands of families, many of whom are living in very bad conditions.

Enforced disappearances of people and their illegal detention, stands in grave violation of International and Pakistani Law; and the Universal Declaration of Human Rights under article 3, 5, 7,9,10, and 11. Moreover, instead of probing into the matter, the concerned officials have instead targeted the very people who are suffering by isolation and despair, by threatening them and making to them false promises. Not only that, the Police, publicly beat up the protesters and humiliated the children of abductees who were peacefully protesting against the illegal detention of their father who went missing in 2005. Pictures of the young boys being beaten up and stripped were published in leading newspapers.
